Unlocking Hidden Acoustics

Presented by IgniteLab and The Melbourne Conservatorium of Music

Young musicians break with tradition to weave stories about the music and create spellbinding performances.

Since its founding in 1894 as the University Conservatorium of Music, the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (MCM) has pursued a mission to educate young musicians for the highest standard of musical accomplishment.

However, the skills required to create and sustain a musical career look very different than they did even a decade ago. In 2016, MCM established IgniteLab in response to this challenge. This innovative program of entrepreneurship education, career planning and student community engagement supports the development of 21st century artists and equips young musicians with the skills and strategies to create career success.

The partnership with Open House Melbourne provides an opportunity for MCM performers to unlock the hidden acoustics in our city’s significant buildings.

Students from the classical and jazz studios will break with tradition and share the hidden stories behind the music. Not content just to make music, these young creative innovators are challenging the expectation of where and what a concert could be.

Locations: Government House and Grainger Museum. Performance times to be announced.
