The new Bendigo Hospital is the largest regional hospital development in Victoria. The $630M Victorian Government project delivers world-class healthcare facilities and provides a welcoming, holistic and positive environment that promotes wellbeing. The winner of many design awards including the 2017 Premier’s Sustainability Regional Recognition Award, 2018 PCA Public Building of Victoria, and 2018 Australian Institute of Architects (Vic) Public Architecture Award, the new Bendigo Hospital was undertaken by Exemplar Health as a Private Public Partnership.
The hospital is a significant civic building integrating a holistic health framework, considering the needs of patients, staff and the community, offering a tranquil and caring environment through the integration of architecture, landscaping, health planning and evidence-based design. Design solutions reflect the future needs of the region, providing value-for-money for constituents, and considered with sustainability, functionality and longevity as major themes. Landscaped courtyards, green roofs, and Dja Dja Wurrung and Chinese gardens reflect the cultural diversity of the region’s history, and views towards these landscapes characterise the design. The scale, colours and proportion of the hospital’s built form reference Bendigo’s distinguished heritage buildings, while establishing a strong sculpturally formed
civic element, a more friendly and human scale.
