Brutalist Block Party – Otis. Brutal.

Brutalist Block Party is a May-long program of talks, workshops, lunches, dinners, social situations and a weekly produce market – presented by Assemble Papers and Open House Melbourne.

Otis. Brutal. is a series of conceptually concrete events built on the foundations of gratifying food, honest wine, moving music and evocative installations. Four intimate sittings will take place across day and night, delivering a considered barrage of Brutalist food and drink. Otis. Brutal. encourages a swathe of senses which seek to soothe, overcome and celebrate aesthetic adversity. It is an unmatched experience celebrating the rewarding nature of a brilliantly executed feast whilst proudly turning its back on all that is expected of fine dining. Through the creation and digestion of something completely new Otis. Brutal. leads the field in creative dining and is not to be missed.

Otis. Brutal. is the latest edition of Otis Armada – conceived in 2014 by a group of Melbourne-based creatives who are committed to exploring, re-contextualising and celebrating the ritualistic aspects of communal dining. Pairing thoughtfully curated food, wine, music and installation art together, Otis Armada creates unique temporary dining experiences that honour seasonal produce, artistic collaborations and most of all creative thought.

Brutalist Block Party is part of a broader Open House Melbourne program called ’What’s the beef with Brutalism?’ – a series of screenings, talks and tours that consider people’s beef with a Béton brut, explore the social significance of the style, and consider what is the new, new brutalism?
