In Conversation with Andrew Dixon

Join Open House Melbourne and The Planning Institute of Australia for a conversation with Andrew Dixon, PIA’s international keynote for the 2015 Congress.

Andrew Dixon works with culture and place to transform cities and subsequently transform lives. Andrew was behind the £250 million cultural regeneration and repositioning of Newcastle Gateshead in the UK, championing ambitious projects such as The Sage Gateshead and the Angel of the North. A previous Programme Director of the World Summit on Arts and Culture, Andrew has become a specialist on repositioning places through culture. He led the successful bid for Hull to be UK City of Culture in 2017 and is advising the City of York on its future cultural vision. As Chief Executive at Northern Arts he led the implementation of a £250 Million capital strategy for arts facilities. He was Programme Director for the World Summit on Arts and Culture in 2006.

Wendy Lasica will be in conversation with Andrew. Wendy is an urban planner and non-executive director with decades of experience as a leader of cultural/community organisations, and an award-winning cultural producer. Why does a theatre producer become an urban planner? Because the cities she loves, as evolving, complex ecologies, need interventions that encourage dynamic and accessible places and spaces.

Join us at the newly opened The Channel at the Arts Centre Melbourne for a conversation with Andrew about his work and experience in fostering a creative city.

Presented by PIA and Open House Melbourne.
