Jane’s Walks: Fisherman’s Bend

Jane’s Walk is an international citizen-led walking conversation inspired by urbanist Jane Jacobs. Jane’s Walks encourage people to share stories about places, discover unseen aspects of their communities, and use walking as a way to connect.

FISHERMAN’S BEND WALK SATURDAY 14 JULY 3-5PM

Free – registrations essential via openhousemelbourne.org

Fishermans Bend is a former industrial area catapulted into a new future when it was re-zoned to capital city zone in 2012.

At present, Fishermans Bend is extremely hostile to walking. The walking network is fragmented and limited.

Planning for the future imagines that Fishermans Bend will “boast unprecedented levels of walking, cycling and public transport connectivity that will set a new benchmark for Melbourne”.

On this Jane’s Walk, experience current conditions on a Saturday afternoon and dream of future walking happiness and the transformation needed to achieve it.

Along the way, find out snippetes and stories of the history of Fishermans Bend.

The walk will traverse the Sandridge and Lorimer precincts. Fishermans Bend is 485 hectare – too big to explore in two hours!
