This is Public: Future Needs
To be public is to be shared. This is Public delves into the shared spaces, places and aspirations of Melburnians and their city. You’re invited to the interview recording for the second episode at the new podcasting studios in one of Melbourne’s most treasured waterfront public houses, The Espy.
As a partner of the Living Cities Forum (with Naomi Milgrom Foundation), Open House Melbourne’s second episode of This is Public will focus on the conference theme: Future Needs. Programmers Emma Telfer and Sally McPhee will host a live podcast conversation with Living Cities Forum speakers and local thinkers about the key challenges of the next decades, from densification to de-growth, innovation to adaptive re-use, and transforming ideas into decisive action.
Christopher Hawthorne, Chief Design Officer for the City of Los Angeles, and Rob Adams, Director of City Design at the City of Melbourne will be interviewed about how design responds to future needs in our cities, specifically LA and Melbourne. Tomorrow’s realities are today’s design problems. We can’t just talk about making a more walkable city, for example, without also thinking about mitigating extreme heat waves, capturing and conserving water and balancing density with overcrowding.
The Espy Kitchen will be open to serve to your booth, and the bar is nearby for refreshment. Come alone or with many and enjoy a Saturday of good food and compelling conversation.
This is Public is recorded at and supported by The Espy, and brought to life by the Metro Tunnel Creative Program, a program dedicated to enhancing city life alongside the Metro Tunnel.
