Waterfront: I’m on a (Port of Melbourne) Boat!
Step on board a catamaran and gain a new perspective of the city and the role this vital infrastructure plays in supporting our growing population and economy. Melbourne’s port is Australia’s premier container and general cargo port and a vital trade gateway for Victoria, Tasmania and parts of regional NSW and South Australia. Around 36% of Australia’s trade moves through Melbourne’s port – that’s over 3000 ships each year and 3 million containers. The tours feature a guided commentary from port staff and take-in Victoria Dock and Appleton Dock, the port’s more historic facilities, before visiting the container terminals at Swanson Dock. All tours are round-trips, leaving from Victoria Harbour in Docklands.
Waterfront is presented by Open House Melbourne as part of Melbourne Design Week—an initiative of the Victorian Government in collaboration with the NGV. I’m on a (Port of Melbourne) Boat! is co–presented by Port of Melbourne.
