Waterfront: Songs and Stories

Traditional Western mapping methods dictate an abstracted understanding of place that is defined purely by boundaries and location with the aims of establishing ownership and financial value. How does this differentiate from Indigenous mapping and ways of understanding Country? How would our cities look if urban planning followed traditional songlines? How would our design responses be influenced by adopting a more layered and nuanced understanding of place?

Join us at the Footscray Community Arts Centre amphitheatre for a discussion on these topics, before we hear The Orbweavers perform their own mapping methods through musical responses to water and place.

Presented by Open House Melbourne and Black White and Bluespace, supported by FCAC for Waterfront – part of Melbourne Design Week 2020, an initiative of the Victorian Government in collaboration with the NGV.
