West Gate Tunnel Project

The West Gate Tunnel Project will end Melbourne’s reliance on the West Gate Bridge by building twin tunnels under Yarraville and new links to the port, CityLink and the CBD. But how is major underground infrastructure created with minimal disturbance to the life of a city?

What’s on:
Exclusive small-group tours will visit the West Gate Tunnel Project’s northern portal construction site, taking in the project’s tunnel boring machines, a 22 metre deep launch shaft and massive rock and soil handling shed. Safety clothing including hard hats and boots will be provided for all attendees. This tour starts and ends at the project’s Information Centre near the corner of Whitehall Street and Somerville Road, Yarraville.
