Collins Street Baptist Church

Architect: Joseph Reed

City of Melbourne | C44

The Baptist Church place of worship in Collins Street is described by Heritage Victoria as the grandest classical church in Victoria, and Architect Joseph Reed’s finest and purest achievement in the giant and Corinthian order of architecture. The elegant building constructed in 1863, is the oldest Baptist place of worship in Australia still used for its original purpose. A pre-existing chapel, constructed in 1845, was demolished to make way for the present-day building. Sunday worship service is at 10.30am.
