Kathleen Syme Community Centre and Library

Reed and Barnes

Architect: Reed and Barnes 1859

Refurbishment: Bates Smart and McCutheon 1977, Croxon Ramsay 2015

Formerly the Faraday Street State School, the building is said to be modelled on the Oxford University Museum. A new restoration has transformed the 140-year-old Kathleen Syme building into the Carlton community’s buzzing location for learning and creativity – featuring a library, café, makerspace, recording studios and activity rooms for hire.
