XO Dining

Architect: Kosloff Architecture, Urban Initiatives (Landscape Architects)

Monash University | MU15

Located at the base of the Hargrave- Andrew Library at Monash Clayton, XO Dining is a relaxed sanctuary for informal meetings and study supported by high quality food outlets. Comprising two retailers and a shared informal dining area, the space designed by Kosloff Architects and Urban Initiatives opens directly onto the English-style Kenneth Hunt Garden. The significant garden was established by the founding Dean of Engineering, around a central tree grown from a cutting of the original Newton’s Apple Tree. Drawing reference to the idea of discovery and the navigational symbol for ‘distinctive tree’, are the letters ‘XO’. Clues and cues that provide further information on this peculiar name are hidden within the venue to inspire further discovery. As the university motto goes, ‘ancora imparo’ – even while we eat or relax, meet or congregate, ‘we are still learning’. Shortlisted for Best Retail Design – Eat Drink Design Awards 2017
