Yarram & District Health Service

Architect: McBride Charles Ryan, 2020

Located in the heart of Yarram, Gippsland, the Yarram & District Health Service (YDHS) Integrated Healthcare Centre is a small-scale healthcare project that forms part of a greater medicinal precinct, consisting of local hospital, aged care and allied health facilities. The Yarram & District Health Service (YDHS) Integrated Healthcare Centre is a symbol for the advancement of healthcare across regional Victoria, demonstrating a new approach to public healthcare with meaningful civic purpose. MCR’s approach to the new Healthcare Centre was to ensure that the building was an inspiring place for the community to gather, generating a vibrant and equitable public interface, particularly through the complex undulating geometries of the Veranda. Both delightfully disruptive and respectful to the existing architectural character of the town, the Integrated Healthcare Centre is one the few new public buildings in many years, introducing a new civic precinct to the vibrant community of Yarram. The east façade incorporates recycled bricks from the existing site in the form of YDHS lettering to announce its street presence to passer-by’s, whilst also serving as a proud emblem of the Yarram & District Health Service.
