This is where it starts. Good design. Great architecture. You now have the chance to see inside some of Melbourne’s architecture studios, to see where the magic happens!

 

41X – Accommodates the Australian Institute of Architects’ Melbourne offices, including the Victorian Chapter, over four levels. You might be lucky enough to visit the rooftop, which boasts a suprising view of the city.
Exhibitions Street, Melbourne
Open: Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July, 10am – 4pm

Architecture Architecture – A beautifully restored 1870’sshopfront on Brunswick Street, boasting 4m high windows and a view of the eucalypts in Atherton Gardens.
Brunswick Street, Fitzroy
Open: Saturday 29 July, 10am – 4pm

Archier Studio – At 2pm, Archier directors will discuss their process as a small practice producing architecture and lighting plus how they work within and outside of the space. The rest of the open time is self-guided.
Sydney Rd, Brunswick
Open: Saturday 29 July, 11am – 4pm

Cox Architecture – Tours will run every 15 minutes, 20 people per tour.
Flinders Lane, Melbourne
Open: Sunday 30 July, 10am – 4pm

Edition Office – Take a self-guided tour through the studio and enjoy the architectural models on display.
Victoria Street, Fitzroy
Open: Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July, 10am – 4pm

Fieldwork Studio – Recently converted, home to an architecture firm: Fieldwork, design studio: Local Peoples, online and print publication: Assemble Papers, residential property developer: Assemble and a 9ft Dicksonia Antarctica fern! Architects will be on hand to answer any questions during the afternoon.

Folk Architects – Architecture studio housed in the beautiful Nicholas Building!
Swanston Street, Melbourne
Open: Saturday 29 July, 10am – 1pm

GPO2 Design Studio – An open-plan workspace on the second-storey of the grand 1867 GPO building, housing 70 architects, designers, support staff, and subtenants, designed to touch the original structure lightly and to fit inside the heritage volume. 
Bourke Street, Melbourne
Open: Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July, 10am – 4pm

HASSELL Studio – Sorry this studio tour requires bookings and is fully booked out.

NH Architecture – Come and see how NHA let daylight and ventilation rejuvenate the previously existing 1980’s office building.
Flinders Lane, Melbourne
Open: Saturday 29 July, 10am – 4pm

Orica House – One of the first freestanding, fully glazed, curtain wall commercial skyscrapers in Australia! Designed by Bates Smart and McCutcheon and opened in 1958, Orica House is now home to architecture firm Bates Smart. Tours run every 10 minutes with 15 people per tour.

Six Degrees Studio – Join Peter Malatt for a floor talk at 1pm.
Argyle Street, Fitzroy
Open: Saturday 29 July, 10am – 1pm

Woods Bagot – Sorry this studio tour requires bookings and is fully booked out.

WOWOWA Shopfront Studio – A team of six share this refurbished 1930s stained glass window suite. Come and hear the team discuss their work from 12pm on Saturday 29 July.
